The following is the transcript of a Foellinger balcony narrative from April 14, 2000. It is an unedited excerpt from the original Chief dialogue document.

MS. CASSANDRA KEGLER: Hi. My name is Cassandra Kegler. I am a Northwestern student, a citizen of Illinois and a student that is part of the Big 10. And as a fellow member of the Big 10, I feel that this debate at the U of I is particularly relevant to me because our schools interact in conference activities.

Basically, this is just a simple matter of recognizing that we are all human beings and if the, after today the U of I board still insists that Illiniwek is not problematic, even after all of these opposing voices have been heard, the only real achievement will be a perpetuation of this controversy and more proof for the rest of us that the U of I is close-minded and an ignorant University.

The real issue for the U of I board is money. It is not a symbolic value of Chief Illiniwek that is important. It's not an intangible sense of pride but rather the very tangible donations of alumni for this school. As a student and more importantly as a human being, I sincerely hope that you make the right decision in the coming weeks. That you exercise enlightenment and education over money and therefore fulfill your primary responsibilities as a university. Thank you.

See the U.I. Dialogue on Chief Illiniwek page for more transcripts and information.
