Opinion: very anti-Chief

In today's society one would like to imagine we've gotten past stereotypes and have finally learned there is no set appearance / personality for a gender, race or background. As a strong supporter of Native rights and a person- I find the chief immoral, stereotypical and an example of commonplace ignorance. Any fool could look around and realize American Indians aren't running around in moccasins, wearing headdresses and yelling out battle cries. They're regular people who dress just like everyone else, listen to whatever music they like and love Burger King as much as the next person. Why don't colleges have more racial / ethnic mascots? Why is it Notre Dame doesn't have Quasi Moto as their mascot? Or why isn't there a Polish mascot? Maybe Andrew Jackson, hell, he was a president- a man who influenced history.

It's not going to tear the school down to just change the mascot. Slavery was a "tradition" but we eventually all got around to realizing it wasn't such a great idea after all. Same thing with the Germans killing off the Jewish people, it was common day occurrences that ended up being morally wrong. This mascot may no be putting a man into involuntary servitude or sticking them in mass graves, but it is demeaning a culture and a people.
