Welcome to RetireTheChief |
Alvin White, Thursday, Apr. 3, 2003 Subject: "Show me Seminole endorsement!" Editor's note: the following letter is in response to an earlier letter regarding the Seminole Chief at Florida State University. Also - the website for the National Congress of American Indians may be found here. Hey J.P., No one else mentions Seminole tribal endorsement because it doesn't exist! What you have is one (possibly corrupt) leader of the Seminole tribe who endorses the use of "Osceola" as a means of scoring points with political leaders in the state of Florida. The closest I've seen to support is the Lumbee's who think the University of North Carolina at Pemberton should stay the Braves. But, I haven't seen either two of these tribes make similar statements to the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI), a national organization of tribal goverments that has denounced the use of tribal names for America's fun and sports on more than one occasion. I'm willing to listen, however, show me some proof. Contact either the Florida Seminole tribe or FSU and have either produce a document of support. I'd love to see it!
