In 3rd Grade, then Chief Scott Christianson visited my grade school. He spoke about Native American history and performed much of his routine for our school. As 3rd graders, we were awe struck. We were introduced to the idea that our state has a great deal of Native American heritage. For some students, their interest in Illinois and Native American history began with the Chief. What anti-Chief groups unknowingly have done is destroy that spark of interest for thousands of young people throughout our state.
