"A proud Dakota woman," Mar. 21, 2005 (Opinion: anti-Chief) After reading through some of the comments on this page, it saddens me the amount of hate that truly resonates from people's comments. The emails speak for themselves on the blatant racism from these pro-chief comments. Time and time again they resort to ridicule, mockery and disdain to a people they "say" they are only honoring. Insinuating that we have bigger problems to deal with, and that further discussion on this issue only perpetuates racism within this institution, is wrong and misleading. On the anti-chief side emails you simply see a list of reasons why people do not agree. There are no attacks to people's ancestry, but rather true positions coming from the people who have to live with constant misrepresentation and distortion on the real lifestyles of First Nations people. I wish the First Nations who live in the state and have affiliations with the University much luck in changing years of a stereotypical attitude. "A proud Dakota woman," via the web. |
