What gets me about the people who support indian mascots is that they try to compare us to animal mascots as a defense. They also always pull out the Fighting Irish mascot. Here's the thing, we don't speak for the Fighting Irish fans or for Irish people because it's not our place. The same way it's not your place to tell Indian people they should not be offended by mascots like "chief illiniwek" or the "redskins." The fact that mascot supporters and non-indians don't find it offensive is irrelevant. There is a LARGE majority of Indian people who do find it offensive and they are the ones whose views matter in this situation because it's their culture that is being mocked.
