Welcome to RetireTheChief |
Anonymous, 3/14/2007 (Chief opinion: For) I understand that you won your battle to retire Chief Illiniwek, but if you found him to be offending I would think that FSU paying the Seminole tribe to let a person on a horse run around the field with a flaming spear would be offending too. What FSU is doing is saying that there is a price on the honor of Indians. Yes I understand that the person that was dancing was a White man in an Indian costume doing a dance that wasn't authentic, but would you have had different feelings if the person dancing was Native American. I know some of you are going to say that you wouldn't do it but I would think that there would be someone out there that would, besides it would then bring honor to the Native Americans. I just think since you got Chief Illiniwek removed you should go after FSU now because them paying to use a mascot is as big of a slap in the face as what you thought Illiniwek was.
