Welcome to RetireTheChief |
"casspark," 3/31/2005 (Chief opinion: VeryFor) I believe all the political correctness of the country is getting out of hand. A school mascot is something to be proud of. The schools dont choose to be the"pansies" or the "wildflowers". Lets face it, they want to choose something strong, something to strike fear into the hearts of the other teams. Even if the "Wildflowers" had a winning record, would you be worried about playing them for a championship? I think not. Now an undefeated team of maybe the Braves or the Chiefs would get more attention than "pansies." Native Americans throughout history have fought hard and against all odds. Never giving up and not accepting defeat. Pirates, same story. Pirates knew what they wanted and would stop at nothing to get it. Next thing you know, peta will step in and call it discriminating to call a team eagles or lions or tigers. A mascot is something for the whole school and community to be proud of and to support. If this truly is a free country, shouldn't schools have that same right to be called what they want. Take a vote, let the majority rule. Thats the way all things should be handled. There are things I personally dont like, but that is how the majority voted, so I have to deal. Lets not turn this great country into a socially acceptable country. Thats not what our ancestors fought and died for.
