Sit-in at U.I. Administration Bldg | |||||||||||||||||||||
April 2004: Protest & Sit-in at U.I. Administration BuildingThe anti-"Chief" coalition occupied the U.I. Swanlund Administration Building on campus on April 15-16, 2004. The sit-in was in protest of the Board of Trustees' decision to cancel a meeting scheduled for 4/15, at which a Chief vote was to be held, and to draw attention to proposed new rules making it difficult for a single trustee to put an issue on the Board agenda. The protesters left the building on the second day after an agreement was reached to allow anti-Chief representatives to meet with Illinois legislators, and after hearing that trustee Francis Carroll would put a vote on the Chief on the June, 2004 meeting agenda. Movies from the protest appear below. "sml", "med", "big" refer to progressively larger and higher-quality quicktime (QT) movies; large AVI movies are also available. (The quicktime movie player is free for Windows and Macintosh).
