About the BOTThe University of Illinois Board of Trustees (BOT) oversees the University of Illinois. Their responsibilities are broad:
The final decisions regarding Chief Illiniwek are also theirs to make. MeetingsThe Board holds an annual meeting on the third Thursday of January, and other meetings throughout the year. Their meeting agendas and materials are available here. Their schedule for 2006 (so far) is:
Speaking at a meetingThe Board allocates up to 30 minutes at every meeting for public comments from up to six speakers. Those wishing to speak before the Board must request permission to do so, and not all requests are honored. On matters of the Chief, they may allocate equal time to pro- and anti-Chief speakers, for example.To request to address the Board, a written request must be received by the Secretary not less than three business days prior to the meeting. The request "should set out clearly the nature of the subject matter to be presented" and include the person's name and any relevant title or affiliation. Substitute speakers are not permitted. Speakers are given five minutes; this time is strictly enforced. You may contact the Board of Trustees at UIBOT@uillinois.edu. Remember that requests to speak at meetings must be made in writing.
